Over the weekend, I spend a good bit of time rebranding this Substack. After giving it a lot of thought, I realized that I want this Substack to be the basis for my book, and I want to write it in public.
The working title of the book is “Engineering Generosity: Why we need to build abundant systems in the age of AI”, so I’ve rebranded this to Engineering Generosity.
For more details on the vision, check out the About page,
This is also going to be the base where I start offering a number of other services. First of all, I’ve added in paid plans to the newsletter. But all posts will be available for free. The paid component will only be to access a community I call The Win-Winners Circle. We’ll focus on creating abundant systems wherever we can, and to begin with, it will just live here on Substack. As the community grows, we’ll look to take it into its own space that can allow us to communicate more easily and more freely.
In the interest of generosity though, if you can’t afford the community, but want to be part of it, please just email me and I will add you. No need to give details or anything else, just ask, and you’ll be added.
In addition, I’m going to be offering consulting and coaching around the concept of Abundant Systems. Again, I don’t want price to be any sort of barrier. If you want coaching or consulting around what you are doing in life, I’m more than happy to help at a cost that makes sense to you. Since the market is inefficient right now, I don’t believe in the concept of “market value”. I know what I could get paid as an AI software engineer or an AI consultant, but frankly, I’d rather help people who are focused on helping people. If I can help you, please let me know. We’ll figure out a way to make it work.
So what do these offerings look like?
Coaching
For coaching, I’m focused a lot on the 0-0.1 piece of the 0-1 journey. I am really good at helping people get started along paths that they don’t believe are possible. Having studied the creator economy, startups, and economics in depth, I’ve developed a great understanding of the dynamics at play. So I can help you figure out what you can do to get started today, and how you can use any resources you want to apply to it to make real impacts in the world.
Most people are way too focused on the stats, the metrics, and the vanity measures. I’m focused on the real value created. So I’ll help you start creating real value, and doing so in a way that will help people. I’ve got a couple of coaching clients already, and if this is something that interests you, I’d be happy to connect you to one of my clients as a reference.
Consulting
Again, I’m really good at the early days. It’s easier to build abundant systems when starting from scratch. There are fewer people that need to buy in to systems that are different from the way they normally think about them. I can help build new things in a few different ways:
Fractional CTO: I’ll help you out by building the MVP, setting up the infrastructure, and getting the tech off the ground. And I’ll help you find the right people to take over the systems and build out your vision. This is mainly what I’m doing out of my venture studio, Idea Nexus Ventures. As a current example, I’m working as a cofounder to create a new ecosystem in the VC+founder fundraising space. I believe it’s not currently setup to allow the best founders to win, instead it rewards the people who focus on the wrong things. Instead of creating more noise by generating as many pitch decks as possible and pushing them out to as many investors as possible, we are focused on using pitch decks as a starting point and helping founders get better feedback, earlier. And then we will be helping investors filter out the noise, so they can focus more time and attention on the founders who are doing things the right way. I believe we can get to a place where all investments pay off, not just 10%. That’s inefficiency in the venture space, not the hard and fast rule that everybody pretends it is.
System design: This is more of a traditional consulting role: I’ll examine your systems and help you figure out where the major inefficiencies are and help you design systems that drastically increase your efficiencies, allowing you to get more done with less. That’s at the core of abundant systems: achieve more with less as time goes on. This is much different from the way most companies grow, where they require more and more to get less and less done over time. Look at how much faster startups can move. There’s a big reason for that, and it’s all around the speed of communication and minimizing friction. The biggest factor that slows down a company is how much time and energy it takes to communicate goals and expectations. And as you become more efficient, you can reward the people you are working with, because that’s what will ultimately help you be successful in the long-term. Abundant systems are all about aligning incentives to maximize long-term growth and efficiency.
Team coaching + teaching: I love using AI to be more efficient in my life. But there are a lot of ways to use AI, and most of them are wrong. Instead, I believe in using AI in a human-centric way. So I can come into your organization and work with your team to help them understand not only how to use AI to become faster and more efficient, but also do so with humans at the forefront. I can also help your team communicate more effectively.
Strategic Consulting: Large companies are undervaluing their employees and can be getting much more out of them while giving them much more in return. I want to help companies that value their employees get the most out of them by working with them to craft a human-centric AI adoption approach. I’ll work with a company’s leadership to help them identify weak points in their organization and create abundant systems that can grow more efficient and effective over time. I’ve noticed that companies are not planning well or adapting well to the technological changes we’ve been experiencing, so I’d like to help them do that much more effectively.
As I'm writing Engineering Generosity, my goal is to live out the concept of abundance and build out as many abundant systems as possible. That way, I’m not only speaking in hypotheticals or ideas. I believe that abundant systems will win out over time, so I’ve got to prove that.
If there’s anything I can ever do to help you bring about more abundant systems, please let me know. I’m here to help.
If I can help you with something, here’s a link to schedule a time to chat with me:
Leo, I didn't know anything about your work before, but reading that you've rebranded and that your focus is on abundant systems has me feeling more alive and buoyant. I look forward to following your journey and learning more
